Hang on to Summer with "The Spring Tide" at Old Red Lion Theatre Islington

Venue: Old Red Lion Theatre
Run: Tuesday 3rd September - Saturday 21st September
Time: Tuesday - Saturday 7:30pm
Saturday & Sunday 3:00pm
Tickets £15 (£12 Concessions)

Details & bookings: http://www.oldredliontheatre.co.uk/the-spring-tide.htm

More lesbian themed theatre for Londoners as the World Premiere of The Spring Tide, a modern day love story of transformation and hope takes place in September at London’s Old Red Lion Theatre in Islington.

This intimate, personal yet not uncommon story centres around the character of Suzy and her unstinting love for Lan. A world without Lan in it would be unimaginable. But the strongest feelings are also the most dangerous, and Suzy is afraid. Instead of Lan, she chooses a life of safety, convincing herself over the years that this is the right path. This will resonate with many of the audience.

But even pulled apart, they find they are drawn to one another by a deep, irresistible, inevitable bond.

After years apart, Lan’s final return shatters everything Suzy has made her own – a home, a husband, a son. As her world begins to unravel, Suzy must confront her fears and her desire. A decision must be made, whatever the cost.

In a move away from the recent run of 'coming out stories' this is instead a ‘coming of Middle Age’ story with a feminist heart that insists its women achieve happiness in the face of adversity.

The Spring Tide is written by up and coming playwright Carol Vine, whose credits include short films Rise and Irreparable and a one-woman show, Whore.

The play is directed by Graham Hubbard, (
Associate Director Sweeney Todd and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) and is produced by Oliver Taheri.

Writer, Carol Vine says, "It took me a while to find this play. I skirted around it for a long time before realising that I simply wanted to write a love story. For some reason this terrified me. Some of my previous work has been described as challenging, unsettling, provocative, and yet this for me was a far more difficult piece to write, and more exposing. It’s not autobiographical, but the feelings within it are deeply personal, and though perhaps that is true about everything I’ve written, this is certainly the piece that has kept me awake for more nights than any other.

Maybe that’s a good thing. I once heard a playwright give the advice, 'You should write the play that scares you most; the one that you fear may shock or even alienate your friends and family.'"

Wotever film festival 3: Tuesday 27 August

Venue: RVT, Vauxhall 372 Kennington Ln  London SE11 5HY

Ticket price: £6 (includes spiffy programme)
Concessions available
Doors: 6pm, films 7pm – early attendance recommended as the last two have been super busy!

http://woteverworld.com/events/event/wotever-queer-film-festival/

We are delighted to announce that the third Wotever Queer Film Festival will take place on the 27th August at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.

An exploration of queer, DIY cinema, we aim to showcase short and mid-length work from every corner of our wonderful queer community. Previous films have included Anthony Osso's touching and beautifully shot series of films, The Devotion Project; Jake Graf's Iris-nominated X-Why? and of course work from our very own Wotevers Dr J, Olivia Sparrow and Cristine Bylund and many, many more.

This year's programme looks to be just as exciting, varied and edgy, with work that swings from the life-affirming and fluffy to the downright outrageous.

Warming our cockles is Jessica Cheeseman's Country Matters, a tongue-in-cheek documentary about a lesbian village fête and featuring the magnificent Stella Duffy.
Predictably introspective, honest, and visually stunning is film festival-favourite Olivia Sparrow with I have Nothing Left, while Gayle Rubin-approved The Temple of the Butthole by Dr Charlotte Cooper will have you laughing, cheering and squirming in the aisles. We did say it was edgy...

We will also be featuring the two Devotion Project films we didn't show last time round and are currently confirming one or two other big names – exciting news to follow! Submissions are still coming in so don't miss programming news on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/events/145574862312482/?fref=ts or on Twitter at #woteverfilm.

If that wasn't enough, our popular film makers' Q&A panel will be back, as well as some very special performances, zine stand and cake stall. We will also be rounding with a DJ set from Hug the DJ.

This year we are being sponsored by the generous folks at Planet London, who are helping us with funds to produce a super-spiffy programme designed by Matt Cotsell, who also designed the stunning poster attached, and all our promo.
